Choosing the Best Place to Live

People move for variety of reasons. The place they choose for their new home depends on several factors. Many people prefer the variety of housing options and amenities in large cities. Others prefer smaller cities with less expensive housing, according to  The Wall Street Journal. People may want to live in a charming small town with many amenities within walking distance. Some want to live in places that offer plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation.

Large Cities

Large cities such as New York, Boston and San Francisco offer a variety of housing options. People who want to live close to restaurants and shops can buy condos near downtown areas. There are houses with three or four bedrooms in residential neighborhoods near schools. Those who are saving money to buy their first home will plenty of apartments and houses for rent.

Big cities offer amenities such as plenty of jobs, public transportation and a variety of things to do. Those who live in a big city can work for city government or large companies with headquarters in the city. Teachers can work at public, private or charter schools. New York, Boston and San Francisco have subways. Shoppers can visit designer boutiques in Miami and Las Vegas. Sport lovers can attend professional football games in Seattle, San Francisco and Dallas. Those who like a variety of music can attend concerts at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles. Chicago has a symphony orchestra.

Smaller Cities

Those who want to live somewhere less crowded and hectic that offers access to the amenities of a big city may want to live in a smaller city near a large metropolitan area. People who work in large cities can live in smaller cities nearby and commute to work. Those who live in  Summerville can commute to Charleston by taking a commuter bus. People who live in the town of Blue Bell near Philadelphia can commute to Philadelphia on a Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority train. The Metro-North Railorad offers commuter service for those who live in towns north of New York City.

Small Towns

People who enjoy a quiet life may want to live in a small town. They can greet friends and neighbors while they stroll along the town’s main street. Community events in small towns include holiday festivals, parades and picnics in the park. Children can reach their schools by walking a short distance through a residential neighborhood. Some people who live in a small town are able to walk to work.

Other Locations

Swimmers and surfers may want to live near the beach in California or Hawaii. Those who like winter sports might want to live in the mountains in Utah or Colorado. Horseback riders will find plenty of trails in Kentucky’s rolling hills. Boaters will find plenty of places for boating in the Finger Lakes region in upstate New York. Hikers will have a great time exploring the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania or national parks in California.
